Cookie Policy
Last updated: 8 October 2026
This policy explains how the Greenwich Journal uses cookies and similar browser storage, in line with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). The short version: we use a handful of strictly necessary storage items, we set nothing optional without your consent, and we use no advertising or analytics cookies at all.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text records that a website asks your browser to store. Browsers also offer a similar facility called localStorage, which keeps records on your device in much the same way. Both let a site remember something between visits, such as the fact that you have already answered a consent question. Records created by a site can only be read back by that site, and you can delete them at any time through your browser settings.
The storage items we use
Every item below is strictly necessary for the site to work the way you asked it to. None of them tracks you across other websites, and none of them sends information to us or to anyone else: they live in your browser and stay there.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| gj_cookieconsent | localStorage | Records your cookie consent choice so the banner does not keep reappearing. | Until you clear site data |
| gj_fontscale | localStorage | Remembers the text size you chose with the A- and A+ buttons. | Until you reset or clear site data |
| gj_contrast | localStorage | Remembers whether you switched on high contrast mode. | Until you reset or clear site data |
| gj_dyslexia | localStorage | Remembers whether you switched on dyslexia friendly text. | Until you reset or clear site data |
| gj_motion | localStorage | Remembers whether you asked for reduced motion. | Until you reset or clear site data |
Optional cookies
We do not set any optional cookies or storage items without your consent, and at present we do not set any optional cookies at all. If that ever changes, this page will be updated first and the consent banner will explain the choice before anything is stored.
How to change or withdraw consent
You are in control at all times. You can change your mind in either of these ways:
- Press the Reset button in the accessibility toolbar at the top of any page. This clears your stored accessibility preferences and your consent record, so the consent banner will appear again on your next visit.
- Use your browser's settings to delete cookies and site data for greenwichjournal.com. Every modern browser lets you do this for a single site without affecting others.
No advertising or analytics cookies
The Greenwich Journal carries no third party advertising and no analytics tracking. There are no advertising cookies, no social media pixels and no cross site trackers on this website, and there never will be without a clear notice on this page first.
