Strictly Icons Week: Injured Delta Goodrem Given a Bye as Twelve Couples Take the Floor

Delta Goodrem was forced to pull out of Strictly Come Dancing's Icons Week live show tonight through injury, leaving twelve couples to battle for the top of the leaderboard in the competition's second themed week.

The Australian singer, who had spoken of her excitement at bringing her Eurovision experience to the ballroom, was ruled out on medical advice. Under the show's rules she has been given a bye and, all being well, will return to the competition next Saturday.

Icons take over the ballroom

Week four of the series saw the celebrities pay homage to music legends including Mariah Carey, Shania Twain and Sir Elton John, with the judges, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and head judge Shirley Ballas, casting their usual watchful eyes over every step on BBC One.

Among the favourites for high marks were Dani Dyer, performing a rumba to Carey's Hero, and fellow former Love Islander Cach Mercer, who showed his smooth side with a foxtrot to Frank Sinatra's New York, New York. EastEnders star Lacey Turner also remains firmly in the hunt as the field narrows.

The field narrows

Thirteen couples had remained in the competition after Gavin and Stacey star Melanie Walters became the second celebrity to leave last weekend. With Goodrem watching from the sidelines, the pressure was on the remaining dozen to avoid the bottom two ahead of tomorrow's results show.

Under the show's rules, an injured celebrity who misses a live show is given a bye to the following week.

What next

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One and iPlayer tomorrow night with the Icons Week results, when one more couple will leave the competition. Goodrem's progress will be monitored through the week, with the show hopeful she can make her return in week five.
